STC Pittsburgh Chapter Candidates

President
Bryce Walat

Bryce Walat has been a member of STC for the past seven years. He has served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Central PA Chapter and Secretary and Vice President of the Pittsburgh Chapter.

Bryce has more than eight years' experience in technical writing, instructional design, and research. Bryce has lent his skills to Carnegie Mellon's Software Engineering Institute, Concurrent Technologies Corporation, UPMC, and Five Star Development.

He has presented "Making a Corporate Style Guide With Style" at the September 2007 meeting of the Pittsburgh Chapter and co-authored an article of the same name, which was published in the April 2005 issue of Intercom.

Vice President
Lisa Over
B.S., Scientific and Technical Communication, Bowling Green State University, 1994

After college, Lisa moved to Pittsburgh and spent four years as a technical communicator and then two years as a computer support coordinator. She was a member of STC during her college and early working years and rejoined a little over a year ago.

In 2000, Lisa left the work force to raise a family. She took a correspondence web design course and engaged in further self study. She has designed four web sites and continues to maintain them. She currently is taking a correspondence course on XML authoring. Her long-term goal is to get a Masters degree (and maybe a PhD) and teach in a college.

Lisa’s leadership experience includes two years as President of a preschool board. The preschool board sets policy and supports the teachers. Lisa’s job was to set the agenda for the meetings, moderate the meetings, and represent the board on the Preschool Director's yearly evaluation. She looked at monthly agenda guidelines to see what is usually covered in any given month and also worked with the Preschool Director to determine the agenda. She communicated with the board treasurer and Preschool Director between meetings if there were any budget issues or tuition payment issues. During her tenure, the board adopted the following policies: Medication Administration Action Plan (for severe allergic reactions), Code of Conduct (for the preschool board), Substitute teacher Qualifications, Extra Teacher Qualifications (extra teachers help with involved projects like Mother's Day crafts), Volunteer Job Description, Personal Days Policy, Intern Qualifications. As the writer in the group, Lisa drafted the documents and presented them to the board for review and modification.
